Major Danny Greer - Director of Music - ARCM
Danny was born in 1958 in St. Andrews, Scotland. He was the son of a miner and was raised in Barrhead near Glasgow. His musical studies began at School before entering the Royal Academy of Music in Glasgow. Danny advanced his musical career by joining the Band of the King’s Own Scottish Borderers in 1976. At the age of 26, Danny passed the audition for the Student Bandmasters’ Course at the world renowned Royal Military School of Music, Kneller Hall in London. Here, he successfully completed his studies, winning the Bronze Medal in the Fred Mortimer Brass Band Competition. In 1989, Danny was appointed Bandmaster to The Royal Highland Fusiliers and during this period extensively toured the world with his band. He retired from the Army in 1993 and became a freelance musician and a teacher for Hertfordshire Music Services. Shortly afterwards, he became Director of Music to the East Herts Concert Band. This position was held for 13 years during which time he toured with the Band extensively throughout Europe and the USA. Danny was appointed Director of Music to the Essex Yeomanry Band in 2006 and has subsequently dedicated his time in raising the standard and quality of the Band’s musical presentation. Danny holds the rank of Major within the Essex Yeomanry, and King Edward Grammar School CCF.
